Corona numbers are rising rapidly again. Nevertheless, according to a survey published by “heute.at” the majority of Austrians believe the pandemic is over.
Earlier this month, there were daily infection numbers between 3,000 and 5,000 people. In the past few days, there have been around 8,000 in each case. This is not a problem for the population, as the current question of the week from “Unique Research” for “Heute” (500 respondents, max. fluctuation range ±4.4 percent) shows:
Clear result
A full 57 percent consider the pandemic to be over. Forty percent are of the opposite opinion.
For three out of four Freedom Party supporters, Corona is history. This view also prevails among SPÖ and ÖVP voters (Green and Neos supporters are too small a sample, note).
Women more optimistic
Sixty percent of female respondents said that the pandemic is by and large over for them personally. By comparison, “only” 54 percent of the men surveyed said the same.
Only older people cautious
Among younger respondents and people between 30 and 59, the attitude “Corona is over” predominates. In the 60-plus group, 58 percent believe the pandemic is not over.
“Living with the pandemic.”
Opinion researcher Peter Hajek: “To put it briefly, you could say that larger parts of the population have learned to live with the pandemic. Some experts have not yet.”
